Air Source Heat Pump

Air source heat pump (ASHP) works by transferring heat absorbed from the outside air to an indoor space, such as a home or an office via wet central heating systems to heat radiators or underfloor heating and provide domestic hot water. Heat pumps work similarly to a refrigerator they absorb heat and transfer it to another medium.

Aluminum Radiators

Aluminum radiators are an ideal choice when looking for high outputs in both high and low temperature heating systems. Aluminum radiators respond instantly to changes in temperature, heating up much faster than standard steel radiators, thus enabling you to regulate your room`s temperature more easily

B
Base tray heating element

Prevents ice from forming at the bottom of the drain pan with a heating pipe.

Biofuel

Biofuels are a renewable energy source, made from organic matter or wastes, that can play a valuable role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Biomass boiler

Biomass boilers provide you with space heating and hot water for the entire home, but instead of using gas or oil to produce the heat, they combust sustainably sourced wood pellets.

C
Condensing oil boiler

Condensing oil boilers feature a heat exchanger that gives them a very high efficiency. They extract nearly all of the heat contained in the flue gases ,turning this into additional heating energy and therefore minimising waste.

Carbon footprint

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions.

Carbon

Carbon is a chemical element with the symbol C and Atomic number 6.  It is nonmetallic and tetravalent-making four electrons available to form covalent chemical bonds. It belongs to group 14 of the periodic table.

D
Dual Thermostat

This is two separate thermostats - a control thermostat and an overheat thermostat, built within a single unit. The control thermostat allows the operating temperature to be set, whereas the overheat thermostat is a safety device that will operate if the temperature goes beyond the pre-set limit. The overheat thermostat can be manually reset at the touch of a button, once water temperature has cooled down.

Deep retrofit

With a deep retrofit, you undertake an extensive overhaul of your heating systems that can save you over 60% on your energy costs.

Domestic Hot Water

Hot water for the kitchen and bathroom sinks, tubs and other appliances in your home.

E
Erp

The Energy Related Products Directive is designed to assist the EU achieve reductions in carbon, NOx and SO² emissions.

Efficiency

This is the relationship between energy supplied to the boiler and energy output from the boiler.

Energy Efficiency

An approach to reduce energy consumption, while continuing to maintain a certain level of energy output.

F
Fan Convector Radiator

Fan convectors radiators are fan-assisted heat emitters which use Low Temperature Hot Water from a heat source to heat up a heat exchanger. The fan then blows the heated air into the room to heat a space quickly and efficiently.

G
Grant

Grant Engineering is Ireland’s leading manufacturer of heating technologies and has been providing efficient and reliable home heating solutions for over 40 years. The company continues to stand at the forefront of the heating industry with its forward-thinking approach to research and the development of innovative, energy saving designs and award-winning heating products.

Grants

The Sustainable Energy Association of Ireland (SEAI) offers financial grants to Irish homeowners for upgrading your heating system, installing an air source heat pump and replacing your oil boiler. Find out more about these grants here: https://grantengineering.ie/support/government-incentives/

H
Heating controls

Allow you to easily regulate the temperature of your home based on settings input by the user to ensure maximum comfort.

Heat Pump

A heat pump is a versatile electrical appliance featuring an efficient heating system which extracts heat from one source and transfers it to another, working like a fridge and an air conditioning unit.

Home heating

Home heating provides warmth to the number of spaces within a building and optionally also able to heat domestic hot water from one main source of heat.

HARP

The Home Heating Appliance Register of Performance (HARP) database is a product efficiency database for home heating appliances used in Ireland.

I
Insulation

Insulation is a thick layer of a substance that keeps heat retained within each room in your home.

J
K
Kilowatt-hour / kWh

The kilowatt-hour is a unit of energy equal to one kilowatt of power sustained for one hour or 3600 kilojoules. It is used as a billing unit for energy delivered you electrical items.

The heating controls system that works effortlessly with the Grant Afinia aluminum radiators and Grant Uflex underfloor heating.

NZEB

NZEB Nearly Zero Energy Buildings was introduced into the 2010 revised version of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, Nearly Zero - Energy Buildings means a building that has a very high energy performance.

O
Oil boiler

An oil boiler works in a very similar way to a gas boiler. The fuel in this case oil is ignited in the combustion chamber and a heat exchanger warms up cold water, either from the mains in a combi system or from a cold water tank in a conventional system oil is a more efficient fuel than gas.

P
Part L

Is a subsection of general building regulations that relates to the conservation fuel and energy that was created in 1997, with the latest amendment occurring in 2017 to reflect the requirements of the European Energy Performance of Building Directive (Recase) in relation to the requirement that all buildings be Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) by 31st December 2020.
